Management Development Programme

The Management Development Programme (MDP) was a deliberate decision to begin the academic activities at IIFM. Since its inception, the Institute has been continuously diversifying and offering management development programmes to practicing managers, foresters and policy makers in India and other Asian countries.

The MDPs are designed with the objective of providing

  • insights into managerial concepts and techniques relevant for the forestry, development and environmental sectors

  • formulating and implementing strategies in functional areas, and

  • an overall perspective for decision making by integrating functional and general management approaches

MDPs provide an opportunity for two way learning process for the quest for knowledge that ties together the faculty and the practioners through mutual exchange.

The 25 strong faculty members at IIFM working in eight multidisciplinary faculty areas continuously integrate action research with teaching and applied work.

The pedagogical tools are matched with the needs of individual MDPs with an emphasis on active and participative learning. The outcome and experience from action research undertaken by the faculty provide important inputs to MDPs. Case discussions, Group exercises, lecture-cum-discussions, experience-sharing and presentations by participants further supplement the participative learning.

Response of government, non-government and forest based industries to our MDPs has been very encouraging. IIFMs Programmes receive participation from various levels such as policy makers (state and central government), practicing managers & foresters, developmental professionals, local body and community representatives.

Additionally, the institute plans to conduct client-specific programmes at IIFM campus and/or off-campus at client site. Interested client organizations may approach the institute for conduct of such programmes to Prof Rekha Singhal.
