IIFM regularly undertakes consulting work for a number of national and international organizations in its sphere of expertise. The multi-disciplinary nature of the IIFM faculty coupled with excellent infrastructure makes IIFM ideally suited to offer consultancy services to organisations working in the area of forestry, environment and natural resource management. Over the past years, the Institute has offered its expertise to central Government and its subordinate departments, State Government and its Corporations, multi-national organisations, international donor agencies and business/voluntary organisations. The Institute has been extremely fortunate that its consultancy services have been sought on a large number of subjects such as Agro - forestry, Marketing, Non-timber Forest Produce (NTFP), Grassland Management, JFM, Silviculture Systems, Eco-development, Forestry Planning and Management, Social Forestry and many others others.

IIFM has bagged a number of prestigious consultancy contracts by a wide array of national and international organizations organisations. Some of the prestigious clients that have availed of IIFM's consulting services include Deutsche Gesellschaft Fur Technische Zusammenarbeit (GTZ), Swedish International Development Agency SIDA, Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), World Bank, DFID, ICCO, Asian Development Bank, Narmada Valley Authority, Ministry of Environment and Forests and various state forest departments of the country.
